Bob Ferguson is the governor of Washington, a Democrat whose term began on January 15, 2025. He served on the King County Council from 2003 and was Washington's eighteenth attorney general from 2013 to 2025.

Biography

Bob Ferguson was born on February 23, 1965, in Washington, and his official biography describes him as a fourth-generation Washingtonian. He graduated from the University of Washington and then New York University law school, and began his legal career in Spokane, where he clerked for two federal judges before returning to Seattle for civil litigation practice.

In 2003 Ferguson won a seat on the King County Council, where he served until his election as attorney general. He was elected Washington's eighteenth attorney general in 2012 and held the office from 2013 to 2025. The attorney general's office says that in 2015 he formed its Wing Luke Civil Rights Unit, now the Wing Luke Civil Rights Division.
