Biography
Cleo Fields was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on November 22, 1962. He graduated from McKinley High School in Baton Rouge in 1980, earned a B.A. from Southern University in 1984 and a J.D. from Southern University Law Center in 1987. He worked as a nonprofit executive and as a lawyer in private practice.
Fields was a member of the Louisiana state senate from 1988 to 1993, from 1997 to 2008 and from 2019 to 2024. He was an unsuccessful candidate for the House in 1990, then was elected as a Democrat and served from January 3, 1993, to January 3, 1997. He was an unsuccessful candidate for governor of Louisiana in 1995 and was not a candidate for reelection to the House in 1996. He was elected to the 119th Congress and has served since January 3, 2025. He sits on the Committee on Financial Services.
