Kelly Armstrong is the governor of North Dakota, in office since December 15, 2024. A Republican and a lawyer, he represented North Dakota in the U.S. House from January 2019 until he resigned in December 2024, and earlier served in the North Dakota Senate.
Biography
Kelly Armstrong was born in Dickinson, North Dakota, on October 8, 1976, and graduated from Dickinson High School in 1995. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of North Dakota in 2001 and a law degree there in 2003. The House historian's office lists him as a lawyer and business executive.
He was a member of the North Dakota Senate, where his official biography says he represented District 36, and was chairman of the North Dakota Republican Party from 2015 to 2018. He was elected as a Republican to the U.S. House in 2018 for North Dakota's at-large seat and served from January 3, 2019, until he resigned on December 14, 2024. His governor's office biography says he sat on the House Judiciary Committee and the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
Armstrong took office as the 34th governor of North Dakota on December 15, 2024.
