Background

Biography

Larry Marker was born in Hobbs, New Mexico, in 1963, and his family settled in Roswell in 1972, where he was raised. The Albuquerque Journal lists him as a 1982 high school graduate; no further education is stated. He is a self-employed oil and gas businessman, and his campaign biography says he has worked in oil and gas production, farming, ranching, manufacturing, construction and service. He ran unsuccessfully for a New Mexico state Senate seat in 2024, and his campaign site shows an earlier campaign for state commissioner of public lands. In 2026 the Republican Party had no candidate on the primary ballot for U.S. Senate, and Marker, a late entrant, ran as a certified write-in candidate in the June 2, 2026 Republican primary. He received more than 31,000 write-in votes, more than ten times the minimum needed to qualify for the general election ballot. He faces Democratic Sen. Ben Ray Luján, who is seeking a second term, in the November 3, 2026 general election.
