Biography

Mike Bost was born in Murphysboro, Jackson County, Illinois, on December 30, 1960. He graduated from Murphysboro High School in 1979 and served in the United States Marine Corps from 1979 to 1982. He completed the Certified Firefighter II Academy at the University of Illinois in 1993. The House historian's record lists him as a truck manager, firefighter and business owner.

Bost was a member of the Jackson County board from 1984 to 1988, Murphysboro Township treasurer from 1989 to 1992 and a township trustee from 1993 to 1995. He served in the Illinois state house of representatives from 1995 to 2014. He was elected as a Republican to the 114th Congress and to the five succeeding Congresses, beginning January 3, 2015. He has chaired the Committee on Veterans' Affairs in the 118th and 119th Congresses and also serves on the Agriculture and Transportation and Infrastructure committees.
