Mike DeWine is the Governor of Ohio, in office since January 14, 2019. He was Ohio's attorney general from 2011 to 2019, a U.S. senator from 1995 to 2007, lieutenant governor, and a member of the House from 1983 to 1991.

Background

Biography

Mike DeWine was born in Springfield, Ohio, on January 5, 1947, and was raised in Yellow Springs. He earned a B.S. from Miami University in 1969 and a J.D. from Ohio Northern University in 1972, and began practicing law in Xenia. He was an assistant prosecuting attorney in Greene County from 1973 to 1975 and the county's prosecuting attorney from 1977 to 1981.

DeWine served in the Ohio Senate in 1981 and 1982. A Republican, he served in the House from January 3, 1983, to January 3, 1991, and was elected lieutenant governor for the term beginning January 14, 1991. He lost a Senate race in 1992, won in 1994, and served in the Senate from January 3, 1995, to January 3, 2007, after losing his 2006 reelection bid. He was attorney general of Ohio from 2011 to 2019.

He was elected the 70th governor of Ohio on November 6, 2018, and took the oath of office on January 14, 2019. His second term began on January 8, 2023.
