Background

Biography

Rebecca Cooke, 38, was born and raised on a dairy farm in Eau Claire County, Wisconsin. She graduated from Eau Claire public schools and earned a degree from the University of St. Thomas. According to her campaign, she worked for Democratic campaigns in her early 20s, opened Red's Mercantile, a retail shop, in 2015 and closed it after about seven years, founded the Red Letter Grant in 2016 for women entrepreneurs in northwest Wisconsin, and was appointed by Gov. Tony Evers to the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation board; she says she still waits tables at a local restaurant. Cooke lost the 2022 Democratic primary for Wisconsin's 3rd District to state Sen. Brad Pfaff. In 2024 she won the primary but lost the general election to Republican Rep. Derrick Van Orden, 51.3 percent to 48.6 percent. In the August 11, 2026 Democratic primary she defeated Emily Berge, a former Eau Claire City Council president. Van Orden was unopposed. The general election is November 3, 2026.
