Biography
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. graduated from Harvard University, studied at the London School of Economics and received his law degree from the University of Virginia Law School. He also holds a master’s degree in environmental law from Pace University School of Law.
He began working in 1985 as an attorney for the environmental nonprofit Riverkeeper. His Health and Human Services biography says he co-founded the Waterkeeper Alliance, a clean-water nonprofit, and served as its president for 21 years, and that he co-founded the nonprofit Children’s Health Defense. The same biography describes him as a lifelong Democrat who became estranged from the party in the 2010s and says that on October 9, 2023, he announced his candidacy for president as an independent.
Kennedy was sworn in as the 26th Secretary of Health and Human Services on February 13, 2025, in the Oval Office by Supreme Court Associate Justice Neil Gorsuch.
