Biography
Scott K. H. Bessent earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale University, where he later taught economic history as an adjunct professor. His Treasury biography describes a career of more than 40 years in global investment management.
He was chief investment officer of Soros Fund Management and, from 1991 to 2000, managing partner of the firm's London office. In 2015 he founded Key Square Capital Management, a global macro hedge fund, where he was chief executive officer and chief investment officer. The Treasury biography also lists him as a member of the Economic Club of New York and the Council on Foreign Relations and as a former trustee of Rockefeller University, where he chaired the investment committee.
Bessent was sworn in as the 79th Secretary of the Treasury by Supreme Court Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh on January 28, 2025.
