CBO estimated the 2025 law would add about 10 million to the uninsured by 2034, plus roughly 4 million from expiring ACA tax credits. So far ACA enrollment is down only about 1 million.
At an April 22, 2026 Senate committee hearing, Sen. Bernie Sanders said that as a result of the 2025 One Big Beautiful Bill Act, 15 million Americans have been thrown off the health care they need.
The number is a projection, not a current count. The Congressional Budget Office estimated the law would increase the uninsured by about 10 million through 2034; separately, the expiration of enhanced ACA premium tax credits is expected to cost roughly 4 million more their coverage. Together those approach 15 million - but over years, not already.
As of early 2026, CMS reported 23.1 million people enrolled in ACA plans, about 1 million fewer than 2025. Most of the projected losses have not yet happened, and Medicaid work requirements do not take effect until 2027. The claim states a future projection as a completed fact, which is why PolitiFact rated it Mostly False.
