John James, a Republican, has represented Michigan's 10th Congressional District in the U.S. House since January 3, 2023. A West Point graduate, he served in the United States Army from 2004 to 2012 and then worked as a business executive.
Background
Biography
John James was born in Southfield, Michigan, on June 8, 1981. He graduated from Brother Rice High School in Bloomfield Township in 1999 and earned a B.S. from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 2004. He served in the United States Army from 2004 to 2012; his House biography describes eight years of active duty as a Ranger-qualified aviation officer. He earned an M.P.A. from Pennsylvania State University in 2014 and an M.B.A. from the University of Michigan in 2015. His House biography says he was president of James Group International and chief executive of Renaissance Global Logistics.
James was an unsuccessful candidate for election to the United States Senate in 2018 and again in 2020. He was elected as a Republican to the 118th Congress and the one that followed, and has served since January 3, 2023. He sits on the Energy and Commerce Committee.
