Background

Biography

Mark Harris was born in Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, North Carolina, on April 24, 1966. He earned a B.S. from Appalachian State University in 1987 and a Master of Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1991. He worked as a pastor; his House biography says he was senior pastor of First Baptist Church in Charlotte and president of the North Carolina Baptist Convention.

Harris was an unsuccessful candidate for nomination to the Senate in 2014 and to the 115th Congress in 2016. He was elected to the 116th Congress in 2018, but the North Carolina state board of elections directed a new election, in which he chose not to run. He was elected as a Republican to the 119th Congress and has served since January 3, 2025, sitting on the Committees on Agriculture, Education and Workforce, and the Judiciary.
