U.S. Senator from Kentucky
Rand Paul is a U.S. Senator from Kentucky, a Republican elected in 2010 who has held the seat since January 3, 2011. An ophthalmologist who practiced in Bowling Green, he chairs the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.
Rand Paul attended Baylor University and graduated from Duke Medical School in 1988. His Senate biography says he completed a general surgery internship at Georgia Baptist Medical Center and a residency in ophthalmology at Duke University Medical Center. In 1993 he moved to Bowling Green, Kentucky, and began an ophthalmology practice, working as an eye surgeon for seventeen years before running for the Senate. In 1995 he founded the Southern Kentucky Lions Eye Clinic.
Paul was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2010 and took his seat on January 3, 2011. He chairs the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs and also sits on the Foreign Relations, Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, and Small Business and Entrepreneurship committees.
