Background

Biography

Annie Andrews earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Dayton, an M.D. from the University of Cincinnati, where she also completed her pediatrics residency, and a master's degree in clinical research from the Medical University of South Carolina. She moved to the Lowcountry of South Carolina in 2009 and has practiced as a pediatrician treating children and families in the state. In 2022 she was the Democratic candidate against U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace in South Carolina's 1st Congressional District and lost; she has said the children's hospital where she worked did not offer her a new contract afterward. In May 2025 she entered the 2026 U.S. Senate race against Republican Lindsey Graham. She won the June 9, 2026 Democratic primary, in a field that included Brandon Brown, and the Associated Press called the race that night. Graham died in July 2026; his sister, Darline Graham Nordone, was appointed to the seat, won the Republican special primary runoff on August 25, 2026, and is Andrews's opponent on November 3.
