Brian Kemp was born in Georgia on November 2, 1963, and is a native of Athens. The National Governors Association lists his school as the University of Georgia. His official biography says he started his first small business more than 35 years ago, and the state's website describes him as a business owner and investor.

According to Georgia.gov, Kemp served as a state senator from 2003 to 2007 and as Georgia secretary of state from 2010 to 2018.

A Republican, he took office as the 83rd governor of Georgia on January 14, 2019. He was reelected in 2022, and his second term began on January 9, 2023.
