Biography
Dave Bronson is an Air Force veteran and pilot and the founder of the Alaska Family Council. He was elected Mayor of Anchorage in 2021, months after the incumbent mayor resigned, and served one term, from 2021 to 2024. During his term he often clashed with the Anchorage Assembly over COVID-19 policy and homelessness, and his administration faced wrongful termination lawsuits and staff turnover. He sought reelection in 2024 and lost to Suzanne LaFrance. In January 2025 Governor Mike Dunleavy appointed him to manage Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, and he resigned in September 2025. On October 2, 2025 he announced his candidacy for governor as a Republican at a press conference in Fairbanks. In the August 18, 2026 open primary he finished fourth among 17 candidates with 11,041 votes, or 8.40 percent, in preliminary results. He said he would stay in the race despite calls from fellow Republicans to consolidate, and he appears on the November 3, 2026 ranked-choice ballot with Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins, Bernadette Wilson and Treg Taylor.
