Background

Biography

Treg Taylor, a Republican, is a former Attorney General of Alaska, a post in which he served as Governor Mike Dunleavy's chief legal adviser. In 2023, while attorney general, he and his wife Jodi bought an apartment building in downtown Anchorage. He ran for governor in 2026 with Anchorage businesswoman Candice English as his running mate. In the August 18, 2026 open primary he finished fifth with about 7.4 percent, outside the top four that advance, then moved into the fourth slot when second-place finisher Tom Begich withdrew. The Alaska Public Offices Commission recommended against certifying him, finding his financial disclosure did not substantially comply with state law because it omitted his tenants' full names, and on August 31 Lieutenant Governor Nancy Dahlstrom disqualified him. On September 4, 2026 Dahlstrom reversed that decision, saying certification must rest on a process defensible as to every candidate, and placed him in the fourth position on the November 3 ranked-choice ballot with Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins, Bernadette Wilson and Dave Bronson.
