Biography

Tina Kotek was born on September 30, 1966, in Pennsylvania, according to the National Governors Association. Her official biography says she moved to Oregon in 1987 and finished her undergraduate degree at the University of Oregon, then pursued a graduate degree at the University of Washington. After returning to Oregon she worked at Oregon Food Bank and later joined Children First for Oregon as its policy director.

Kotek went on to serve in the Oregon Legislature. In 2013 she was elected by her colleagues as speaker of the Oregon House, and her official biography says she led the chamber for nearly a decade.

A Democrat, she was elected governor on November 8, 2022. The National Governors Association lists her term as beginning on January 9, 2023.
