Biography
Tina Smith was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 1958. It says she worked at General Mills, started her own small business and later worked as an executive at Planned Parenthood.
According to the same biography, Smith served as chief of staff to Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak and then joined Mark Dayton's campaign for governor, becoming his chief of staff when he took office in 2011. She first ran for office in 2014 as Dayton's running mate and became lieutenant governor in 2015.
Smith was appointed to the Senate, and the Senate's records show her service beginning on January 3, 2018. Her biography says she then won two elections, securing her first six-year term in November 2020. She serves on the Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry, Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, Finance, and Indian Affairs committees.
