Gavin Newsom

Gavin Newsom was born on October 10, 1967, in San Francisco. He attended Redwood High School and later Santa Clara University. After college he started a retail wine shop that grew into the PlumpJack Group, which managed restaurants, hotels and wineries across California.

His official biography says his first job in politics was on the San Francisco Parking and Traffic Commission, followed by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. In 2003 he was elected mayor of San Francisco. The National Governors Association also lists him as a former lieutenant governor of California.

Newsom was elected California's 40th governor on November 6, 2018. The association lists his first term as beginning on January 7, 2019, his second as beginning on January 6, 2023.
