Nancy Pelosi

Nancy Pelosi was born Nancy D'Alesandro in Baltimore, Maryland, on March 26, 1940. She graduated from the Institute of Notre Dame in Baltimore in 1958 and earned an A.B. from Trinity College in 1962. She chaired the California state Democratic Party from 1981 to 1983 and was finance chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee from 1985 to 1986.

Pelosi was elected as a Democrat to the 100th Congress in a special election to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Representative Sala Burton of California, and her House service dates from June 2, 1987. She was minority whip in the 107th Congress, minority leader in the 108th, 109th and 112th through 115th Congresses, and Speaker of the House in the 110th, 111th, 116th and 117th Congresses.
