Background

Biography

Pia Dandiya was born and raised in Palm Beach County, Florida, to parents who immigrated from India, according to her campaign website. She began her career as a middle and high school teacher; New Politics, which endorsed her, says she started as a Teach for America corps member. At 28 she was the founding principal of a high school, which Telangana Today places in Harlem, where her campaign says 86 percent of students came from low-income families. She then served as a White House Fellow at the Domestic Policy Council and the Department of Education, and later led public-sector work at Apple on education and health care systems. In 2026 she ran for Florida's 22nd Congressional District, a seat with no incumbent after Rep. Lois Frankel chose to run in the 23rd District. In the August 18, 2026 Democratic primary she defeated attorney Kaysia Earley with 61.3 percent of the vote, per Telangana Today. She faces Republican Casey Askar in the November 3, 2026 general election.
