Background

Biography

Rick Scott served on active duty in the Navy as a radar man aboard the USS Glover, according to his Senate biography, and then attended the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where he earned a bachelor's degree in business administration. He received a law degree from Southern Methodist University. From 1987 to 1997 he established and led Columbia, which later became Columbia/HCA, and in 2001 he co-founded Solantic Corporation, an operator of urgent care centers in Florida.

Scott was sworn in as governor of Florida on January 4, 2011, and for a second term on January 6, 2015. He was elected to the Senate in 2018. The Senate records his term as beginning on January 8, 2019, and notes that he continued to serve as governor in the interim.

He is serving his second Senate term. The Senate lists him as chair of the Special Committee on Aging, and he also sits on the Armed Services, Foreign Relations, Budget, and Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs committees.
